Yres/FLBA Arbitration event

A seminar about arbitration will be held at 6pm on 23 February 2016 at the London offices of Withers LLP, 16, Old Bailey, London EC4M 7EG. The event is free to FLBA members.

The seminar will involve a panel discussion covering all you need to know about Arbitration and Private FDRs in small-hearing and middle-money cases. The event will be chaired by Suzanne Kingston. The panel includes: Rhys Taylor (30 Park Place & 36 Bedford Row), Daniel Walden-Smith (29 Bedford Row), Andrzej Borjaski (36 Bedford Row), Duncan Brooks (QEB), Gavin Smith (1 Hare Court), Amber Sheridan (D. R. Sheridan LLP), Stephen Lyon (4 Paper Buildings), James Roberts (1 KBW) and Felicity Shedden (Shedden Family Law).

Social Media Evidence in Family Proceedings Training Event

This free training event will take place on Wednesday, 24 February 2016 from 6:30pm until 8:30pm. It will be held at the Law Society and is organised by the London Family Justice Board.

There are a limited number of places which will be allocated to barristers and it will be attended by solicitors, Local Authority practitioners, CAFCASS, Magistrates and the Judiciary.

Places have been allocated to the following groups and you will need to indicate which group applies to you when you book a place. Please note bookings will be taken on a “first come- first served” basis.

If you wish to attend, please respond by replying to this e-mail to janette.russell@hmcts.gsi.gov.uk completing the details below. If a place is allocated, an e-mail confirming this will be sent, but there will be no further communication thereafter, unless the arrangements for the event change. If you are booking more than one place you must give details of all those you are making a booking for, who must also be part of a relevant group.

If all the places allocated for the relevant group have been taken, an e-mail will be sent to this effect and names will be placed on a waiting list for that group. In the event that people who have been allocated a place cancel, then the next person on the waiting list will be contacted by Janette to confirm that they have been allocated a place should they wish to take it up.

Lecture: The Essential Requirements of Good Advocacy

This lecture will be delivered by the Hon Justice Ann Ainslie-Wallace, Australian Advocacy Institute, and will be followed by a drinks reception. The lecture is accredited with 1 CPD point and is open to members of all four Inns. The lecture will be held on 14 March 2016 at 6.30pm at Inner Temple, London. New Children Arbitration Scheme

This is a scheme under which disputes concerning the exercise of parental responsibility and other private law issues about the welfare of children may be resolved by arbitration. For those of you wishing to qualify as children arbitrators who have not yet qualified as arbitrators, the first full 2 day course will be held on the 16th and 17th April 2016 at the CIArb, 12 Bloomsbury Square, London. The eligibility criteria for those wishing to train as arbitrators has changed. Please click here to view the new prospectus. The cost will be £1600 plus VAT. Cumberland Lodge Conference

The Cumberland Lodge conference will be held on 6-8 May 2016. The theme for this year’s conference will be the ‘Modern Family’. The programme (which is ‘under construction’) will focus on a topical overview of modern family life, including cohabitee rights, same sex families, international (forced) adoptions, family movement across international boundaries, an introduction to child abduction, complex ‘tripartite’ parental rights (etc.). The FLBA National Conference 2016 will take place on 22 October in Birmingham. Further details will follow in due course.
